Christmas + Cactus = One Fun Card

Hi, guys!

Have you started thinking about making Christmas cards? I’m a long way out from picking a design to make mass quantities of this year, but I’ve been having fun trying out some different stamp sets to make one-of-a-kind cards.

Yes, I say one-of-a-kind cards. Still playing around, trying to find “that” card that will be the one I make lots of. Today’s card is definitely a contender though for me making more like it.

Without anymore delay, meet today’s card.

It’s a bit non-traditional for a Christmas card, which is a big reason why I love it.

The cactus and words are form the Christmas Cactus stamp set designed by Ann Corbiere-Scott for Scraps of Love, a fun scrapbook store I recently visited in Arizona. Ann created a whole collection of  hand-drawn stamp sets for them, a number of which have a sweet Arizona twist.

I couldn’t resist making a Santa-themed cactus with the stamps. I stamped the three cactus plant on white cardstock, plus one Santa hat, and colored them in with markers and pencils. I fussy cut them out and then pieced them together to make the little scene you see here. (By the way, I wanted the images to really stand out so I sponged blue ink on my card base, plus I added some extra detail to the large cactus by adding a few drops of Glossy Accents. Those drops really add something special.)

While I used a combination of markers and pencils to color in the cactus plants, I decided to do something different with the sentiment. I bypassed the markers and simply used colored pencils. I love how it looks.

I also added a few more drops of Glossy Accents to my overall card design, and I added some texture to the white spaces on Santa’s hat with the help of my white Nuvo Crystal Drops.

Anyway, I think this card turned out fun. I just might make some more like it.

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be back again soon, friends.

Sunny Studio Stamps 3rd Birthday Blog Hop

Birthday Blog Hop Logo

Hi, guys!

I’m so happy to be celebrating the 3rd birthday of Sunny Studio Stamps today with a blog hop with some of the most awesome stampers around.

You should have arrived here from the blog of Juliana Michaels! I’m Teri, and this is the last stop on the hop. Just getting started? You’ll want to head to the blog of Sunny Studio after this stop for the complete list.

So I have to say that it’s super cool to see Sunny Studio Stamps turn 3. I’ll tell you a secret: Mendi, the brains behind it, is one of my real life crafty friends. Yes, we really do craft together sometimes. 🙂 If there was ever a company that was a reflection of who someone is, this is what Sunny Studio Stamps is. It is truly Mendi. Happy, friendly and top-notch. And I can also tell you, Mendi works really, really hard at making it all come together. There’s a lot you don’t see. She does it all with a smile and a lot (and I mean A LOT) of heart. I’m proud of you, Mendi, and can’t wait to see what happens next with Sunny Studio Stamps!

Anyway, let’s get back to the hop.

I’ve got three… (yep, 3) cards to share with you today. Each of these cards feature some new products that have just debuted at Sunny Studio Stamps. (By the way, deal alert! So meet card #1.

I couldn’t resist making a cute little scene with the new Warm & Cozy dies. This little dies  are so sweet with a cocoa cup, hat and even mittens! And do you see that pattern on the mitten and hat? Did it myself (oh yeah!) with the help of Sunny Studio’s new Cable Knit embossing folder.

I cut a piece of cardstock and embossed it first and then cut the hat and mitten from it. I’m not sure there’s any magical way you are supposed to do it, but that’s just what I do when embossing and die-cutting stuff.

I was on a roll so with embossing and die-cutting and came up with card no. 2.

I used the same supplies as the last card, just changed things up by going with a rainbow color scheme instead. There’s just something about rainbows, you know. I love them.

And meet card #3.

HappyFoxesChristmasCard1-teri

I wanted a mostly clean and graphic card, but I didn’t want it to be boring so I created the white background with the embossing folder. It’s hard to tell but I did stitch a frame around the panel because … well… I just felt like it for this card. How is that for reasoning? (Wink!)HappyFoxesChristmasCard2-teri

The adorable foxes were stamped and die-cut with the Foxy Christmas stamps and coordinating dies. The words on this card (as well as the other two) are from the stamp set.

Alrighty! That’s all I have for you. Be sure to leave a comment on my post for a chance to win a $25 gift code for Sunny Studio Stamps. Comments will be taken until Monday, 11:59 PDT.

Be sure hit the other blog hop stops too as they all have prizes too. The winner from my blog, as well as the winners from the rest of the stops, will be announced on Oct. 5th on the Sunny Studio Stamps blog.

And for good measure here’s the complete list of folks taking part in today’s hop.

Stamping with the Christmas Birds

Hi, guys!

Back again with a few more cards to share with you!

Today’s cards feature the Christmas Birds stamp set. Technique Tuesday is releasing some Christmas stamps and dies over the next few months, starting with this set I designed and some other products.

I wanted to take a little time today to share a few projects I made with the set.

A stamped Christmas card by Teri | terisplace.wordpress.com

This first card features the stamp set in its simplest form. I stamped the bird and presents on cardstock and then fussy cut them with my scissors. Then I stamped them again on my card, adding the fussy cut portions of them to it. One of the cool things about this design is it would work with either of the birds in the stamp set. Tweet-Holiday-Bird-Card-Teri-A-Technique-Tuesday

The stamp set has matching paper crafting dies available too! And so I used the dies to make this card. Not everyone is a master fussy cutter. That’s why I love matching dies. Cut a die, stamp on it and you are good to go. (Or stamp on a piece of cardstock, line the image up with the die, die-cut and you are good to go!)

Rather than turning the bird blue for this card, I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone. What’s that you ask? Yep. It’s simple. I used gray inks instead. I think it’s a fun look for him!

Warm-Wishes-Bird-Trio-Card-Teri-A-Technique-Tuesday

For this last card, I used the same bird three times. I was going for more of a scene. I could have masked the scene, but instead I stamped the bird three times on cardstock and fussy cut him (…or is it a her? You decide.). Then I stamped the bird three times on my card and adhered the large fussy cut portion of the bird to each impression.

To make the birds look like they are singing, I stamped a few musical notes and added some dots with Nuvo Crystal Drops. Oh yeah, and I added a few sequins too.

Alright! That’s it for now. I’ll be back later, gators. Thanks for stopping by.
