MFT Countdown: 4

Hi all!

We’re one day closer to the August release from My Favorite Things.

And I’ve got one more card made with the new stuff to share with you today.

Meet today’s card.

I have fun playing with the Polynesian Paradise stamp set (and coordinating Die-namics) for this card. The pineapples and the words are from the stamp set.

Rather than coloring, I did some stamping, fussy cutting and die-cutting to make the pineapples. I die-cut the bases with the dies. I stamped on them. And then I stamped the pineapples again on yellow and green cardstocks and fussy cut them out with my scissors. I like the fun look/dimension the combination of techniques gave them.

The circle and rectangle were with cut with the new Double Stitched Circle STAX and Double Stitched Rectangle Die-namics. And that paper on the very bottom of the design is from the new Dots & Stripes Fresh 6×6 paper pad!  More MFT patterned paper? Hooray!!! (<— That’s what I am saying.)

MFT Countdown: 5

Hi all!

It’s time yet again to start counting down to another fun release from My Favorite Things.

The fun begins today with a couple new cards made with the new stuff.

And oh boy, you guys! Just wait until you see the new stamps and dies (and stencils)! Save your pennies now, I tell ya! Good, good stuff!

Alright! So meet card #1.

For this bad boy, I cut the rectangle with the new Double Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-namics. One of the things I love about MFT is their STAX dies. I love all these different treatments (like the double stitching) they give those dies. There’s just something about the look it gives a project.

I created the flowers here by mixing together a couple different new products – the Scribble Rose Overlay and Scribble Roses Die-namics and the Scribble Roses stamp set.

By the way, I also created the background paper. All I did was take the small flower in the stamp set and then stamp it over and over. I think it just kinda brought everything together nicely.

And meet card #2.

I played it on the clean and graphic side with this card. Rather than using the rectangles in a traditional rectangle + larger rectangle (for a mat) sense, I wanted to do something different. How I did that was by anchoring that smaller rectangle in the corner of the larger rectangle. I think I like it!

And you might be wondering about that phrase? Well, it’s from the new Encouraging Words stamp set. I really, really, love the size of the phrases in this set. I think you are going to see it used a few times this week. 😉  They aren’t too big and aren’t too small.

So let me show what I “scooped” up to share with you today. 😉

Oh gosh! For all things cute! I used the new Ice Cream Cone die to make each of those ice cream cones. (The heart is from the Tiny Hearts dies!)

I cut the cones’ two pieces from two different colors of cardstock. For that pink ice cream cone, I was trying to mimic the look of a dipped cone. I cut the ice cream once from white cardstock and once from pink cardstock. I used my trusty scissors to shave a little off the bottom of the pink ice. After adhering it to the cone, I added some Glossy Accents to it. Again, I was just going for the look of a dipped cone.

The sentiment I used on my card is from the Sugar Rush stamp set. i thought it just worked for what I was going for.

Today’s card

Hi all!

Just popping by today with a card to share.

This card kinda just happened. I had been working on some other projects and was cleaning up my desk. And the idea for a card just kinda came from the stuff I was picking up. 🙂

If you look really close, I actually layered together two transparencies (both from the So Rad collection from Simple Stories) to make that U R element. One had the “So Rad” words printed on it. One had the paint marks printed on it. On top of the transparencies, I added the “U R” letter stickers.

The sunglasses are just a die-cut. I wanted to give make them a little more fun so I matted them onto patterned paper. (Again. It came from the So Rad collection.)

And just to finish everything off, I added the star, enamel dot, “text me.” sticker and torn cork paper tape sticker. Again. Really just to bring it all together.

MFT Ingenious Inking Challenge: Resistance is Futile

Hi all!

Got a little inky today. 🙂 And  I wanted to share a new card!

This card just happens to made in response to the latest Ingenious Inking challenge with the My Favorite Things Design Team. We were challenged this time to create something cool with resist!

I created that whole colorful background panel with an embossed resist technique. And I did a little masking too. 😉

The process went a bit like this.

I started out by embossing the Abstract Background Stamp pattern with white embossing powder onto cardstock. Then I set a couple sticky notes onto the panel and gently sponged ink onto it.

I removed the sticky notes and got something like this.

I pulled out my sticky notes again and partly covered up the inked part. And then I added a couple more sticky notes. And I inked again. I used a different color this time.

I ended up with something like this.

And then I just repeated the sticky note and inking process over and over until my panel was completely covered with ink. It took a little time, but I think it turned out pretty cool!

So I used the panel really as a patterned paper for my card.

It seemed a little plain by just using the paper so I added the sequins and star. It’s a little hard to tell but I did add a little vellum under the star. I felt like it just helped mute the paper a little and made the star stand out a little more.

MFT: Rise to the Occasion

Hi all!

I’m joining my My Favorite Things design team buddies for another Die-namics Design challenge. This time, we are spotlighting MFT’s balloon Die-namics are sharing projects that showcase this iconic image!

I’ve got two projects to share with you today. I used the Balloon STAX Die-namics on both of them.

Meet card #1.

I had a strong desire to make a scene with the Balloon STAX Die-namics so that’s what I did. I cut the two balloons from patterned paper using the smallest Balloon die in the STAX. And then I paired them a bear from the Birthday Bears stamp set.  I think he just looks like he is meant for holding a balloon or two.

By the way, to make the bear’s nose really pop, I colored it in with a marker and then applied a layer of Glossy Accents to his nose. It is really shiny in real life, just like in the picture.

And meet card #2.

I wanted to create a happy party scene here so I cut two balloons with the STAX and then added the string (cut with Blueprints 26). I also added the sequins and stars, which I think just makes things look more festive.

MFT meets Xyron. Xyron meets MFT.

Hi everyone!

So, so excited to get to take part in a special meet-up this week with project designers from Xyron and My Favorite Things.

Creative team members from both companies have been playing this week with products from both companies. To see what the MFT team has been making, check out the MFT blog. (There are three new projects there today!) And to see what the Xyron team has been making, check out their Facebook page.

So let me show you the card I made with Xyron products and My Favorite Things’ clear stamps and steel dies.

Xyron adhesives have been part of my creative arsenal as long as I can remember. I remember how life changing it was to get my first Sticker Maker. 🙂

I used the 3″ Sticker Maker to adhere the hello word to the speech bubble base. I also used it to adhere the speech bubble to the card. What you maybe not know is that base was cut from foam that I adhered strips of cardstock too. It was awfully bulky. Cool thing the 3″ Sticker Maker could handle it… bulk and all! It didn’t get stuck. Went through like butter!

Mostly for decor purposes, I used the Teresa Collins Plier Stapler to add a staple to the speech bubble. I think it could be my new favorite tool. It handled the bulk well. I didn’t feel like I had to force the staple through.

Technique Tuesday News + Planner Stamp Set Giveaway

Just so you can see them in action, here’s a quick  (No FRILLS!!! I put a bad filter on it… sorry!… and did no fancy editing) video for you. Plus, you can hear how dorky I sound in real life. 😉 (Be afraid.)

By the way, I want to share  a backstory about these stamp sets. About a year ago, I designed a planner stamp set for Technique Tuesday. Planner stuff was really emerging. (In fact, I even talked about the emerging Planner Trend on Moxie Fab World back in October.)

The stamp set didn’t end up getting produced, but it definitely served as the base for these stamp sets. It was kind of a bummer, but when I first stamped these stamps, I am so glad TT waited…. and I rethought and re-engineered that first set. I feel like these are so, so much more fun that the first stamp set I designed.

Anyway, I hope you like them too. I think if you aren’t a planner, these stamps might work for you too, especially if you are a scrapbooker or lister.

MFT Summer School: Monochromatic

Hi everyone!

Summer School is still happening over on the My Favorite Things blog.

Today’s lesson is all about monochromatics. Monochromatic is: “Similar saturations and hues with different shades of the same color. Touches of neutrals are OK.”

So let me show you the monochromatic card I made inspired by today’s lesson.

So I went with an all blue color-scheme here, opting for various shades. Rather than using all bright blues or all light blues, I kinda went all over the map with dark, bright and light blues.

I kept the use of neutrals to a minimum. If you look that circle in the middle, you can see it still has blue tint to it. I recycled a glassine bag to cut out that circle. (Vellum would have worked too.) So while the bag is neutral, it is transparent so it let some of that blue color pop out.
